Italy’s Resistance Partisans’ Association (ANPI) is calling on all citizens to play and sing the Resistance anthem “Bella Ciao” from their windows and balconies on Saturday April 25, 2020, at 3 pm local time (2 pm UK time, 9 am EDT.)

For the first time since 1946 — one year after Italy’s freedom fighters defeated the Nazis and Mussolini’s fascist regime with the help of the Allies — we won’t be able to march on our streets to mark Italy’s Liberation Day.

And yet now — “More than ever — we need hope, unity, and roots that may give us the strength and perseverance to look forward to a new dawn of Liberation.”

ANPI’s national committee is looking for a way to have “Bella Ciao” broadcast by radio and TV stations, and has launched the HT #bellaciaoinognicasa (“Bella Ciao in every home”.)

A number of associations have already given their support to the ANPI flash mob and are calling on their members and supporters to take part in singing “Bella Ciao” at 3 pm, Saturday April 25. Among them, the main Trade unions — CGIL, CISL, UIL — a number of political parties, and the Sardines.

Do join us and sing with us “Bella Ciao” wherever you are!
